The National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS) is a cryptologic intelligence agency of the United States government, administered as part of the United States Department of Defense. Created on November 4, 1952 by President Harry S. Truman, it is responsible for the collection and analysis of foreign communications and foreign signals intelligence, which involves cryptanalysis. It is also responsible for protecting U.S. government communications and information systems from similar agencies elsewhere, which involves cryptography. As of 2008, NSA has been directed to help monitor U.S. federal agency computer networks to protect them against attacks. NSA is directed by a lieutenant general or vice admiral. NSA is a key component of the U.S. Intelligence Community, which is headed by the Director of National Intelligence. The Central Security Service is a co-located agency created to coordinate intelligence activities and co-operation between NSA and U.S. military cryptanalysis agencies. NSA's work is limited to communications intelligence; it does not perform field or human intelligence activities. By law, NSA's intelligence gathering is limited to foreign communications. Thank you patriot act for taking away our freedoms under the guise of 'preserving' it. What a joke. Answered by ANSWER MY QUESTION!! - Mon Feb 26 05:25:38 2007 What is the purpose of Homeland Security?
Q. I am asking because this particular agency doesn't fit into our government. Here is what I mean: The Central Intelligence Agency protects the United States in other countries. The National Security Agency protects the United States' borders. The Federal Bureau of Investigation protects the United States within our borders. So, to ask the question once again, what is the purpose of Homeland Security. One more thing, I want excellent resources from you or your answer will not be considered. Also, DO NOT list Wikipedia as a resource. Asked by woner_rscp249 - Tue Apr 3 14:35:53 2007 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have worked with a local homeland security agency on a recent case involving helicopters landing at a nearby lake that is the water supply for our city and outlying area. Usually homeland security officers will be comprised of officers from local agencies such as the highway patrol, sheriff's office, local US marshalls. Homeland Security agencies in my area keep track of the infrastructure such as railroads, bridges, drinking water supplies. Anything crucial to the economy and to keep it running smoothly. Many local agenicies benefit from Homeland Security grants also. A Homeland Security grant provided new bulletproof vests and radios for my agency.
