How do you get work in art galleries?
Q. I'm a graduate award-winning designer who's looking to get into the art gallery scene. Having a permanent exhibition in London has wet my appetite and I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on how I can establish myself as an artist who exhibits in galleries. I've heard of the saying "It's not what you know, it's who you know". How do you get the connections?

A. looking for open calls (calls for artwork from non-member artists) for galleries is a good start. talk to other artists. they will recommend which galleries to look at. do not be afraid to exhibit at places such as coffee houses or book stores that run art shows-it matters the work is being seen, not that it is being seen right up at the guggenheim. go to artist receptions and network with artists, patrons and gallery owners. have an internet presence featuring your artwork-visibility is always a good thing. be certain though to research shows and galleries-not all galleries are open to non-member artists and they may specifically shows one media or type of concept or genre.

Can I see computer art as fine art in galleries?
Q. if I create artwork on my computer and print it out, can I sell it as fine art inn art galleries? If the way to go is giclee printing, is giclee printers affordable for me to buy?

A. Yes, but you would have to use a fine art printing process, like doing giclee prints. You could sell cheaper prints off archival quality printers. But for galleries, it has to be the best. You also have to seek out galleries that accept digital art. It's becoming a more and more acceptable as a fine art medium. Funny, when I think of Andy Warhol, I think he would have loved digital art. Here's more info. If you just want to print image off your inkjet printer, you could try selling on etsy.com In that case, invest in a printer that uses archival quality inks. Or your local printer could probably do it pretty inexpensively.

What are the best US cities to visit art galleries and museums?
Q. I am a studio art major and am really interested in traveling to different US cities to potentially work as a gallery director. I want to find a place that is great to live and has a lot of opportunities.

A. Cleavland; because of the steel industry has a great gallery (honestly never been) but the collection includes the likes of turner, picasso (la vie) and a good selection of american art (church and ryder) or buffalo's albright-knox is good focuses on modern (balla, pollock, warhol) and is in a nice setting around the university and is in a nice classical building, also seems to have a good collection as does Detriot; Rivera and Whistler's famous Nocturne (no idea wether Detriot as a place to live deserves its reputation...)
