A congress is a formal meeting of representatives from different countries (or by extension constituent states), or independent organizations (such as different trade unions). The term Congress was chosen for the United States Congress to emphasize the status of each state represented there as a self-governing unit. Subsequently to the use of congress by the US legislature, the term has been adopted by many states within unions, and by unitary nation-states in the Americas, to refer to their legislatures. I wouould like congress to pass a new version of the copyright law that basicly abolisheis the DCMA and replaces it with something like the the early 1980s version of copyright, with the slight tweak that all new software or digital media must be true open source with gnu pricipals 1 and 3 enforced. (meaning use is user directed not corprate directed.) Trouble is, most media companys have loby power. How do we defeat them. I am looking for actual stratagies, not mearly sentiments. The Boland Amendment, which was actually three separate amendments, passed in the early 80s by the US Congress in an attempt to outlaw assistance from the executive branch, specifically the Reagan administration, for giving aid and assistance to the contras in Nicaragua who were trying to overthrow the Sandanista government. The Iran-Contra affair led to the indictment of Oliver North, a Reagan administration official (NSC) who was compelled to testify before Congress and given full immunity in connection therewith. North was later indicted, tried, convicted and sentenced, but with help from the ACLU he got his conviction reversed on technical procedural grounds. (How ironic is that?) Congress in its understandable zeal to get to the… [cont.] Answered by TK - Sun Apr 19 09:25:48 2009 Congress wants to do away with secret ballots for unionizations?
Q. So they want to make everyone in a unionization situation say openly how they voted? How odd that congress then has so many secret ballots and votes. Does this not smell a little hypocritical to anyone besides me? Asked by vtsztpu - Tue Nov 18 17:24:36 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. No, it does not smell a "little" hypocritical. It STINKS of hypocrisy. The whole concept of a secret ballot is to avoid the threat of intimidation. This initiative guarantees intimidation. This is a marxist proposal.
