An art gallery or art museum is a space for the exhibition of art, usually visual art. Museum can be public or private but what distinguishes a Museum is the ownership of a collection. Paintings are the most commonly displayed art objects; however, sculpture, photographs, illustrations, installation art and objects from the applied arts may also be shown. Although primarily concerned with providing a space to show works of visual art, art galleries are sometimes used to host other artistic activities, such as music concerts or poetry readings. Websites: I visit many portrait artist websites to stay in touch with the market while I am 'off work' homeschooling the kids. Though these websites are specific to portraiture, my querries about how much business they are getting through the commercial and privately owned websites has always been negative. The artists say they get little to no business that way. They have said that it is handy to refer clients that they meet through other channels to the site to learn more about their work though. Q. I have interned at a few Fine Arts Museums--I'd like to gain experience in arts management. I am aware of the many job databases specifically for museums and arts-related organizations like Idealist.org, AAM, MERC, and Global Museum, but it seems that art galleries do not advertise job opportunities unless you live in a city like NYC.
