Manga (in kanji 漫画; in hiragana まんが; in katakana マンガ, listen (help·info)) (English: /ˈmɑːŋɡə/) consist of comics and print cartoons (sometimes also called komikku コミック), in the Japanese language and conforming to the style developed in Japan in the late 20th century. In their modern form, manga date from shortly after World War II, but they have a long, complex pre-history in earlier Japanese art. In Japan, people of all ages read manga. The genre includes a broad range of subjects: action-adventure, romance, sports and games, historical drama, comedy, science fiction and fantasy, mystery, horror, sexuality, and business and commerce, among others. Since the 1950s, manga have steadily become a major part of the Japanese publishing industry, representing a 481 billion yen market in Japan in 2006 (approximately $4.4 billion dollars). Manga have also become increasingly popular worldwide. In 2006, the United States manga market was $175–200 million. Manga are typically printed in black-and-white, although some full-color manga exist (e.g. Colorful). In Japan, manga are usually serialized in telephone book-size manga magazines, often containing many stories, each presented in a single episode to be continued in the next issue. If the series is successful, collected chapters may be republished in paperback books called tankōbon. A manga artist (mangaka in Japanese) typically works with a few assistants in a small studio and is associated with a creative editor from a commercial publishing company. If a manga series is popular enough, it may be animated after or even during its run, although sometimes manga are drawn centering on previously existing live-action or animated films (e.g. Star Wars). "Manga" as a term used outside Japan refers specifically to comics originally published in Japan. However, manga and manga-influenced comics, among original works, exist in other parts of the world, particularly in Taiwan ("manhua"), South Korea ("manhwa"), and the People's Republic of China, notably Hong Kong ("manhua"). In France, "la nouvelle manga" has developed as a form of bande dessinée drawn in styles influenced by Japanese manga. In the U.S., people refer to manga-like comics as Amerimanga, world manga, or original English-language manga (OEL manga). From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What's the difference between drawing manga and regular drawings? Q. like, i already know that with manga, there's a difference with the eyes, but i'm trying to learn how to draw manga and i don't want my drawing turning out to be non-manga like. so please help. thanks Asked by dudette. - Wed Oct 3 20:24:50 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Manga is drawings that originated in Japan. Manga is a particular drawing of cartoon characters. Regular drawing is when you take a pencil and draw with it, there are many kind of ways and tools you can use to draw. Maybe you should practice drawing in some other styles so you can learn the difference and also get better at drawing and recognizing different styles. With the black and white colors and the neat lining and stuff. and theres one more question to this: Can I do stuff like that im MS Paint or do i have to buy a certain system? Sorry If I don't make sense. Asked by Mew - Thu Sep 18 19:29:43 2008 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments A. You gotta buy Photoshop or Mangaworks. However, if you don't have talent, none of those programs will help. Moreover, if you're Western quit drawing manga! It will turn bad. If you're good at writing manga style stories, find a Japanese artist to draw it otherwise don't consider what you do "manga" unless it REALLY looks like the authentic stuff which I doubt... Truth is, Western manga attempts suck. And when these delusional artists get published, it's a total disturbance to see them in the manga section. Examples of such so called "mangas" are: Peach Fuzz Von Von Hunter Bezinglash (or something) Well, Tokyo Pop publishes all U.S . comics and labels them as manga. It's a shame... a pity! A disgrace to the true masters! Such weakling… [cont.] Answered by M@NG@K@ - Fri Sep 19 17:54:42 2008 What are the differences in the manga and film of Oldboy ?
Q. Will Smith is going to be playing the lead role in the american adaptation of the Oldboy graphic novels. Now it's already certain that it won't come close to the original korean film , but what it will be different in that it follows the books instead of diverging away from them. What is the difference between the original manga and the film ? Asked by meatwadsprite - Thu Jan 8 19:40:29 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Have you seen the Korean Oldboy film? I'm going to assume you have, because it'll make writing this much easier. Ummm let's see, overall the plot in Old Boy manga was MUCH better than the Korean adaptation. The whole thing with Dae-su witnessing the incestual sex scene, causing the sister to commit suicide is completely original to the Korean movie. There is another motive (a more interesting motive in my opinion) for the manga. Also, there were a couple of characters that weren't in the movie ( Dae-su's bartender friend and his teacher are two that come to mind), and the movie places a heavy emphasis on the people who ran the jail, using them throughout the movie, wheras the manga was done with them early on. Even though I like the… [cont.] Answered by Mat of The RSPSOA - Thu Jan 8 19:54:16 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Manga" Real Betis Plan To Release Goalkeeper Ricardo
