From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The police are people empowered to enforce the law, protect property and reduce civil disorder. Their powers include the legitimized use of force. The term is most commonly associated with police services of a state that are authorized to exercise the police power of that state within a defined legal or territorial area of responsibility. Law enforcement, however, constitutes only part of policing activity. Policing has included an array of activities in different situations, but the predominant ones are concerned with the preservation of order. In some societies, in the late 18 century and early 19 century, these developed within the context of maintaining the class system and the protection of private property. Alternative names for police force include constabulary, gendarmerie, police department, police service, crime prevention, protective services, law enforcement agency, civil guard or civic guard. Members can be police officers, troopers, sheriffs, constables, rangers, peace officers or civic/civil guards. Russian police and police of the Soviet-era Eastern Europe are (or were) called militsiya. The Irish police are called the Garda Síochána ("guardians of the peace"); a police officer is called a garda. As police are often in conflict with individuals, slang terms are numerous. Many slang terms for police officers are decades or centuries old with lost etymology. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Why does American law enforcement do such a poor job tracking down and arresting child pornographers? Q. When you compare the number of CP arrests to the volume of CP being exchanged in the US (as estimated by independent academic studies), the ratio is just shameful. 98% of the CP traders in the US are probably getting away with it. Why doesn't law enforcement just crack down? Why has it decided that 2% is enough? Asked by STRAUSSIAN - Fri Jun 12 19:52:57 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. I cannot speak specifically to the Child Exploitation Material (CEM) situation in the US situation; but you have to realise that yes the internet is a big place, but more importantly it is a place without borders. Policing is limited to a jurisdiction. What you will find is that more and more Law Enforcement Agencies are sharing information and more and more peddlers of CEM are being located and more importantly more producers of CEM are being located and prosecuted for both the trafficking of CEM as well as the contact offences being committed against children. Ultimately the priority of investigators in this area is to identify and locate the children being abused so that they can be rescued. Q. I've been interested in law enforcement for quite a while. I am in college now and I want to go with the agency that pays the most and offers great benefits. Whether its U.S Marshals to FBI to NYPD to US Customs etc. Whatever it is I would like to know. Thank You. Asked by Andres - Thu Jul 16 02:17:49 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would also have to sat the CIA. The CIA is basically a special operations military force. The CIA are basically spies for the U.S. The CIA were involved in huge international cases such as the Cuban Missile crisis, anti-communist, the Italian Mafia, and other big cases along those lines. The CIA is no joke. The CIA deals with crimes worthy enough to stir up political controversy around the globe. So the CIA would be a good choice if you want the "best work" and highest pay. Next would be FBI or DEA. Anyways, all law enforcement jobs comes with benefits so your insurance and all that will be covered. You need to work your way up to a higher pay so good luck Answered by frigig - Thu Jul 16 02:34:54 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "law enforcement" REGISTRY CHECK: Law enforcement in Polk County has banded together to make ... - WHO-TV
