The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth's oceanic divisions. Its name is derived from the Latin name Tepre Pacificum, "peaceful sea", bestowed upon it by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. It extends from the Arctic in the north to the Southern Ocean in the south, bounded by Asia and Australia in the west, and the Americas in the east. Why do you think some people have difficulty differentiating between various Asian American and Pacific Islander ethnic groups? I think a lot of it is the dark hair that is consistant with the groups. Also, many of these cultures are island cultures. if people don't know the differences, it's hard to distinguish any --especially if they live far away from where those people do. It's just human nature. I suppose you could just educate people on the differences --one person at a time as they say. Hope this helps.
