A passenger is a term broadly used to describe any person who travels in a vehicle, but bears little or no responsibility for the tasks required for that vehicle to arrive at its destination.

Crew members (if any), as well as the driver or pilot of the vehicle, are usually not considered to be passengers. For example, a flight attendant on an airline would not be considered a "passenger" while on duty, but an employee riding in a company car being driven by another person would be considered a passenger, even if the car was being driven on company business.

Position

  • Front passengers are situated near the driver.
  • Rear passengers are behind the driver in the back seats.

Railways

In railway parlance, 'passenger', as well as being the end user of a service, is also a categorisation of the type of rolling stock used. In the British case, there are several categories of passenger train. These categories include:

  • 'Express passenger', which constitutes long distance and high speed railway travel between major locations such as ports and cities.
  • 'Semi-fast express passenger', a type of service that is high speed, though stops at selected destinations of high population density en-route.
  • 'Local passenger', the lowest category of British passenger train, which provides a service that stops at all stations between major destinations, for the benefit of local populations.

Does a scheduled passenger flight ever transport hazardous cargo?
Q. I've seen tons of movies with these plots where a scheduled passenger plane transports some sort of hazardous material, whether it be a poison gas, some biological bacteria virus, etc. I just want to know if this actually happens in real life and the pilots get a special notice about something in their plane that could be possibly hazardous to the passengers?

A. Airlines aren't supposed to carry any type of hazardous materials. That's why they ask you when you check in your luggage if you have any hazardous or dangerous items in your bags. Does it happen? Yes, unfortunately people lie and TSA's detectors don't catch most of the stuff. I don't think it's as bad as Hollywood makes it out to be with Biological weapons, but gasoline, air cansisters, and fireworks are about as dangerous as I see in an average day. Sometimes companies just straight up lie to the airline about what's really in the cargo. This would be the case in the Valujet crash into the Everglades in 1996. The shipping manifest had the canisters listed as being empty, when in fact, they weren't and that is what brought that… [cont.]

A. The pilot picks up a microphone and talks into it. The signal from the microphone is sent to an amplifier and then on to several speakers mounted in the cabin of the aircraft. Obviously, a Public Address system on an airplane is used for pilots and aircraft crew to speak to the passengers!

What are some cons of passenger seat in a car?
Q. I'm writing a college essay about why I hate passenger seat but I can't think of any reasons. I know it sounds bad but I really want to use this topic so please help. Atleast try to make them somewhat metaphoric if you can. I mean like riding shotgun. The only thing I can think of is like not having control.
