The Philippines (Filipino: Pilipinas [pɪlɪˈpinɐs]) officially known as the Republic of the Philippines (Filipino: Republika ng Pilipinas), is a country in Southeast Asia in the western Pacific Ocean. Taiwan lies north across the Luzon Strait. West across the South China Sea sits Vietnam. The Sulu Sea to the southwest separates it from the island of Borneo and to the south the Celebes Sea from other islands of Indonesia. It is bounded on the east by the Philippine Sea. An archipelago comprising 7,107 islands, the Philippines is categorized broadly into three main geographical divisions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital city is Manila. With an estimated population of about 92 million people, the Philippines is the world's 12th most populous country. It is estimated that there are an additional 11 million overseas Filipinos worldwide. Multiple ethnicities and cultures are found throughout the islands. Its tropical climate sustains one of the richest areas in terms of biodiversity in the world. In prehistoric times, Negritos became some of the archipelago's earliest inhabitants. They were followed by successive waves of Austronesian peoples who brought with them influences from Malay, Hindu, and Islamic cultures. Trade introduced Chinese cultural influences. The arrival of Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 marked the beginning of an era of Spanish interest and eventually dominance. The Philippines became the Asian hub of the Manila-Acapulco galleon treasure fleet. Christianity became widespread. As the 19th century gave way to the 20th, there followed in quick succession the short-lived Philippine Revolution, the Spanish-American War, and the Philippine-American War. In the aftermath, the United States replaced Spain as the dominant power. Aside from the period of Japanese occupation, the United States retained sovereignty over the islands until the end of World War II when the Philippines gained independence. The United States bequeathed to the Philippines the English language and an affinity for Western culture. Since independence the Philippines has had an often tumultuous experience with democracy, with popular "People Power" movements overthrowing a dictatorship in one instance but also underlining the institutional weaknesses of its constitutional republic in others. GNU Free Documentation License Where in the philippines i can find basil plant? Q. Im doing a research proposal about this plant. I need to know if Basil plants grow in the Philippines and if they do, where in the Philippines. Asked by fourthyear - Fri Jul 4 12:27:50 2008 - - 2 Answers - 2 Comments A. The basil plant...sweet basil commonly called grows practically anywhere in the Philippines. We have one in our home in Antipolo... Growers generally grow them in Tagaytay because the plant prefers cool weather and lots of sun. There are different types of basil though. Italian cuisine uses one kind and Thai and Vietnamese cuisine uses another kind. You may want to be more specific as to what type for your research. You can go to Market Market at the Fort and they usually have some...sometime Rustan's supermarket carries plants. Surely you will find it in Quezon City at the circle where bureau of plants is. Nationals from other countries who are traveling to the Philippines for business and tourism purposes are allowed to enter the Philippines without visas for a stay not exceeding twenty-one (21) days, provided they hold valid tickets for their return journey to port of origin or next port of destination and their passports valid for a period of at least six (6) months beyond the contemplated period of stay. However, Immigration Officers at ports of entry may exercise their discretion to admit holders of passports valid for at least sixty (60) days beyond the intended period of stay. You can rent an apartment if you will pay for it.. but you can't rent one by just using your passport.. Q. I am planning to take my dog to the philippines. I'm originally from Australia, worked in china for a while and fell inlove with my dog and now I want to take him to the Philippines where my father is in his retirement. I don't know though if the philippine animal bureau or customs would accept my import permit application if the pet is coming from china. I already have the paperwork and am getting them done now. But what if the papers are not enough? I mean most countries think China is the dirtiest *** hole in the world but i really love my dog. Asked by energy - Sun Sep 27 17:28:51 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. took my terrier in from singapore, not really sure if they have the same regulations as if it came from china.
