Nounpyramids
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A pyramid is a building where the outer surfaces are triangular and converge at a point. The base of a pyramid can be trilateral, quadrilateral, or any polygon shape, meaning that a pyramid has at least three outer surfaces (at least four faces including the base). The square pyramid, with square base and four triangular outer surfaces, is a common version. A pyramid's design, with the majority of the weight closer to the ground, means that less material higher up on the pyramid will be pushing down from above: this distribution of weight allowed early civilizations to create stable monumental structures. For thousands of years, the largest structures on Earth were pyramids: first the Red Pyramid in the Dashur Necropolis and then the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still remaining and still the tallest pyramid of all. The largest pyramid ever built, by volume, is the Great Pyramid of Cholula, in the Mexican state of Puebla. This pyramid is still being excavated. GNU Free Documentation License How were the great pyramids of Egypt built? Q. First I will refer you to the book by the scientist Davidovits, "The Pyramids, an enigma solved" The evidence is there. The vast majority of people and Egyptologists still believe that the stones were cut and hauled and set into place. Granted Egyptians did haul huge granite blocks and statues weighing many tons. But the millions and millions of blocks of the pyramids, each stone being giant, were not made that way. It is interesting that the Biblical description of the construction of the Tower of Bable matches, the translation is that they made bricks, but that is impossible because bricks would crack under the heavy loads, it is known that they crack too easily. If you see a column of brick it is a facade and there is a steal beam… [cont.] Asked by David L - Mon Jun 26 23:49:02 2006 - - 6 Answers - 1 Comments A. "How were the great pyramids of Egypt built?" But those are square pyramids (square base), not triangular pyramids. If you call the base square of the cube A1 B1 C1 D1, and the top square A2 B2 C2 D2, with A2 above A1, B2 above B1, etc., then you can have 4 pyramids of the kind described inside the cube. Draw the lines [A2 B1], [B1 D1], [D1 A2]. These three lines make the triangular base of a pyramid with vertex at A1. The pyramid has 3 right angles at A1 formed by edges of the cube. The second pyramid is like the first, but with vertex at B2, and triangle A2 B1 C2 as its base. The third has vertex at C1 and base triangle B1 C2 D1, and the fourth has vertex at D2 and base A2 C2 D1. Besides these four… [cont.] Answered by jim n - Wed Dec 26 19:59:38 2007 In ancient Egypt, would there have been a civilisation built up around the pyramids?
Q. Or were the pyramids set apart from the towns and residential areas of Egyptians? Did people live around the Great Pyramids of Giza? Asked by Anomynous - Thu May 7 05:53:34 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. It is now understood that the pyramids were built not by by slaves but by willing volunteers, these volunteers needed huge resources to function. For this reason whole populations were moved and housed near to their work, either at the stone face, the pyramids or in the fields. This required new housing, food and all the infrastructure needed, so the answer to your question is yes.
