Research is defined as human activity based on intellectual application in the investigation of matter. The primary purpose for applied research is discovering, interpreting, and the development of methods and systems for the advancement of human knowledge on a wide variety of scientific matters of our world and the universe. Research can use the scientific method, but need not do so.

Scientific research relies on the application of the scientific method, a harnessing of curiosity. This research provides scientific information and theories for the explanation of the nature and the properties of the world around us. It makes practical applications possible. Scientific research is funded by public authorities, by charitable organisations and by private groups, including many companies. Scientific research can be subdivided into different classifications according to their academic and application disciplines.

Historical research is embodied in the historical method.

The term research is also used to describe an entire collection of information about a particular subject.

What is a good online database for research?
Q. I have a summer research project and I can honestly say that I've done online research before, but that was about two years ago and I can't remember the site. So...where should I start my research online? Please, don't tell me to go to the library, I was already planning on it haha.

What are average costs in research a new drug?
Q. What are average costs in research a new drug? How many years of research are usually involved? What is the ratio of drugs researched compared to those that actually make it to market?

A. To research a new drug is astronomical, price wise! and we pay it, but when a new or old drug gets to be a non-presription drug, they, the drug manufactures are finding out it makes them more money as insurance willnot cover it and they can charge more, to the general people who take, ZYRTEC and claritin are two drugs for allergies that now cost more than when they were prescriptions, hope this helps!

How could I research the original purchaser of a 1920's Corona four typewriter?
Q. I bought a beautiful typewriter a couple of years ago for $25. I use it to write novels and such. I was wondering how I could research the original owner of this typewriter. It has serial numbers, could that help?

A. Most likely, you won't be able to find out anything. you can contact the manufacturer. They might be able to at least narrow it down to the city which it was sold in. But otherwise, there were no records kept, unless you know the estate that it was out of, and could contact family that is still left.
