Security is the degree of protection against danger, loss, and criminals.

Security has to be compared and contrasted with other related concepts: Safety, continuity, reliability. The key difference between security and reliability is that security must take into account the actions of people attempting to cause destruction.

Definitions

Security as a form of protection are structures and processes that provide or improve security as a condition. The Institute for Security and Open Methodologies (ISECOM) in the OSSTMM 3 defines security as "a form of protection where a separation is created between the assets and the threat. This includes but is not limited to the elimination of either the asset or the threat. In order to be secure, either the asset is physically removed from the threat or the threat is physically removed from the asset..

Security as a national condition was defined in a United Nations study (1986){{Citation needed|date=September, so that they can develop and progress freely.

  • With respect to classified matter, the condition that prevents unauthorized persons from having access to official information that is safeguarded in the interests of national security.
  • Measures taken by a military unit, an activity or installation to protect itself against all acts designed to, or which may, impair its effectiveness.

How are magnetized security features on items in stores disabled by just scanning the barcodes?
Q. From what I understand there are these thin metal strips on goods in stores for security in catching shop-lifters.' If this is how items with such security features are detected by the high frequency detector gates located by the doors of stores, then how are these magnetized items disabled simply by scanning their barcodes when purchased?

A. Each thin metal strip contain a data (mostly a sort of serial number, stored as induced magnetic pattern). And when it is scanned, the data from the metal strip will be retrieved, then the cashier computer will connect to its network, and modify its items database, allowing the corresponding item to be registered/marked as paid/purchased. When someone walk through a detector gate, the high frequency wave produced by the gate will be reflected by the magnet according to the data it contains (the reflected wave will have sort of pattern). The serial number of the item will then be identified by the detector gate. Then, a computer in the detector gate will access the store's database to see whether the item with that serial number has been… [cont.]

How to get social security card so that I am able to work legally?
Q. I have been offered a job as a Food and Beverage Manager in a banquet company in Seattle, Washington but I need a social security card because I am a Canadian. Can I get one easily due to NAFTA? Does my Canadian Social Security Card allow me to work in the USA?? I need to join by June.

A. you must be a US citizen to recieve a S.S. Card. I believe the naturalazation process is rather long (several years before eligibility). I dont know if your canadien card along with a green card or work visa will suffice. You should ask the company on that one.

How do I start a security firm like( Blackwater USA) to perform security duties acroos the globe?
Q. How do you start a security firm like blackwater and how do you get to get into the business of Executive protection? What internet sites can help me with that. Note: I am ex-military and state guard card certified and armed guard certified?
Asked by sinceredollars2005 - Thu Oct 18 18:54:40 2007 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Just because you are ex military and guard card certidied does not mean that you have the skills necessary to start a security firm like Blackwater. You first need a great deal of capital to hire and train personnel. You next need to understand who will hire your company and how do you market yourself to them. It will do you no good to start a company and have no business. You will lose the money that you invested very quickly if that happens. Have you ever worked for an International Security firm like Blackwater? You should apply to go to work for Blackwater. If you can get hired the experience that you will get working for them will help you when you are ready to start your own company. You will also know what mistakes not to make.… [cont.]
