Scientific skepticism or rational skepticism (also spelled scepticism), sometimes referred to as skeptical inquiry, is a practical, epistemological position in which one questions the veracity of claims lacking empirical evidence. In practice, the term is most commonly applied to the examination of claims and theories which appear to be beyond mainstream science, rather than to the routine discussions and challenges among scientists. Scientific skepticism is different from philosophical skepticism, which questions our ability to claim any knowledge about the nature of the world and how we perceive it. Scientific skepticism uses critical thinking and inductive reasoning while attempting to oppose claims made which lack suitable evidential basis. The New Skepticism described by Paul Kurtz is scientific skepticism and scientific skepticism is a core part of the Brights Movement beliefs.

Atheists did you know that less than 3% of the World's population are atheists?
Q. The term atheism originated from the Greek (atheos), meaning "without gods", which was applied with a negative connotation to those thought to reject the gods worshiped by the larger society. With the spread of freethought, skeptical inquiry, and subsequent increase in criticism of religion, application of the term narrowed in scope. The first individuals to identify themselves as "atheist" appeared in the 18th century. Today, about 2.3% of the world's population describes itself as atheist, while a further 11.9% is described as nontheist.[7] Between 64% and 65% of Japanese describe themselves as atheists, agnostics, or non-believers,[8][9] and 48% in Russia.[8] The percentage of such persons in European Union member states ranges as low… [cont.]

The effect of credit inquiries on credit score?
Q. I know that some activities which require my credit score being checked (such as taking on new debts) can negatively impact my credit score if done too often. What about personal inquiries, such as using annualcreditreport.com each year to view my credit report? I've heard both points of view from people, but I tend to be very skeptical about financial advice because those willing to give it freely often don't know what they're talking about.

A. Checking your own credit does not affect your score, nor do periodic checks by existing creditors. Only "hard pulls" (applications for NEW credit) affect the score.

Logging PIC Beech 99 time under Part 135 as a new commercial pilot (Tricky)?
Q. Here is a tricky one: I currently work in the corporate office for a 135 charter operation that conducts a pay-to-play FO program. I recently passed my commercial multi checkride and was offered the FO program for free. Free sounds like a good deal, and I am looking into it. However, I am confused as to how they justify the way their FO's log time. Here's the deal as I understand it: I will receive standardized indoctrination and take a Part 135 *SIC* checkride for the Beech 99 with my company. The company's policy is the following: "The co-pilot may log the time during which he is the sole manipulator of the controls as PIC time while operating under [Part 91 or Part 135]." After a previous inquiry, they got a a letter of… [cont.]

A. follow what ben says.. no truer words have been spoken... pay to play is bad for everybody and I know a lot of pilots that cannot get a job because they "purchased" a few hundred hours of SIC time from one of those carriers...
