Sleep is a naturally recurring altered state of consciousness with relatively suspended sensory and motor activity, characterized by the inactivity of nearly all voluntary muscles. It is distinguished from quiet wakefulness by a decreased ability to react to stimuli, but it is more easily reversible than hibernation or coma. Sleep is a heightened anabolic state, accentuating the growth and rejuvenation of the immune, nervous, skeletal and muscular systems. It is observed in all mammals, all birds, and many reptiles, amphibians, and fish. The purposes and mechanisms of sleep are only partially clear and are the subject of intense research. GNU Free Documentation License Sleeping ? Q. I have a daughter that is 6wks,& 4days old. She's been sleeping with me and my husband since she was born, and I want her to start sleeping in her own bed since she is starting to sleep through the night, but I can't do it. The minute I put her down for a nap she'll wake up and stay awake until I lay down with her. I've tried to have her fall asleep next to me and then quietly get up...but I don't fool her!!?? Any suggustions?? Asked by ale - Tue Jun 13 21:44:15 2006 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments A. You have to do it now and you have to be consistent or pretty soon you'll have a 3 year old in bed with you and you'll be asking the same question. It's not going to hurt her or damage the bond you have by letting her cry. If you do it consistently the crying will be less and less each time until there is no crying at all. It will take less than a week, I can almost guarantee you. Also, make sure you are not keeping her awake longer than she should be. An infant should not be spending more than 2 hours awake at a time. Most of the babies I keep in my home day care can barely make it an hour and a half before they are ready for the next nap. Limit her awake time and make sure her bedtime is early, no later than 8. I end up going to bed at 5-6 am. Its frustrating. When I go to bed my thoughts race and i can't sleep. What are some natural sleeping remedies. Q. Well, of course over th summer i picked up some odd sleep habits. Going to bed around 3-5 in the mourning, and waking up at 2 in the afternoon. Well school starts in 2weeks. And i really need to get my sleeping schedule back to normal. Any suggestion how to do that..? Asked by K.D. r.i.p. Billy Mays.. - Thu Aug 6 06:31:12 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. You have the same problem as millions of other teens! My son is in there with you! Get up earlier in the morning in steps and go to bed earlier in the same increments. Example, tomorrow get up at 10am and keep moving through the day so you will be tired and ready to sleep. Then go to bed at midnight. Work on that for about 5 days. Then bump it up to 8am and go to bed at 10pm. Save the final adjustment for the 5 days before school starts. Lay off the caffeine in the evening, get some exercise and if a shower relaxes you and makes you sleepy, use that to your advantage also.
