Broadcast programming, or scheduling, is the practice of organizing television or radio programs in a daily, weekly, or season-long schedule. Modern broadcasters regularly change the scheduling of their programs to build an audience for a new show, retain that audience, or compete with other broadcasters' programs. Television scheduling strategies are employed to give programs the best possible chance of attracting and retaining an audience. They are used to deliver programs to audiences when they are most likely to want to watch them and deliver audiences to advertisers in the composition that makes their advertising most likely to be effective (Ellis 2000 p.136). Digitally based broadcast programming mechanisms are known as Electronic program guides. At a micro level, scheduling is the minute planning of the transmission; what to broadcast and when, ensuring that every second of airtime is covered. Q. To what extent does a particular genre (situation comedy, reality, or dramatic series) of American television programming influence and/or reflect values in popular culture? Asked by Matthew M - Thu Apr 30 14:12:00 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would think that the music stations really affect values and opinions because music is so forceful in its flair. Comedy makes us laugh, but, well, sometimes it makes us think. Reality is not reality and I think most people know it, people act all bad or whatever when they are on a reality show. Dramatic series can suck people in and change them to some extent. News, I believe just confirms what you already believe because most people just watch the news channel that they agree in, I.E. Republicans Fox, Democrats MSNBC and independents listen to the radio. lol I think what reflects values the most is peoples ACTIONS. That is where the real story is. Q. Does it exist on the internet (if it does, link please!) and if not does it exist at all? Asked by Bob - Wed Jun 10 13:54:48 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. It certainly exists, I haven't got a link, but I can tell you the main terrestrial channels ran the story, live, from the moment it was big news. Here is one interesting live clip from the BBC. It is a report that WTC7, (the Saloman Building), had collapsed, made half an hour or so before it collapsed. You can even see the building in the background. One of the many hints that all was not as it seemed that day: Answered by hog b - Wed Jun 10 16:02:49 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "television programming" |
